Eagle Pass “Open Design” Toll System
Upgrade Awarded to TRMI

TRMI Systems Integration has been selected by the City of Eagle Pass, Texas, to design and install an automated toll collection system to replace the current system in use at two international crossings: Camino Real and Bridge One.

TRMI will provide the City with a complete solution using “off the shelf” products for a toll collection system including TRMI's Guardian™ software suite which maximizes procurement options. According to Jose Correa, TRMI Project Manager, the system upgrade replaces the bar-coded AVI tags currently in use with proximity smart cards."

“This RFID technology,” said Correa, “will greatly increase security and vehicle processing speed, enabling the toll lanes to work in automatic mode. TRMI will install touch-screen collector terminals, which will ease the collector interface by displaying only the keys needed to go from logging onto the lane to classifying a vehicle, to indicating the method of payment. The displays will be mounted on an ergonomic arm that can be adjusted to accommodate the toll collector’s preferences.”

Guardian’s open design implements strict and complete modular design coupled with well-defined interfaces that create a system where other suppliers can furnish different parts of the system. This maintains a competitive procurement environment where technology lock-in is removed, so that multiple vendors can bid on upgrades and extensions to existing systems."
