TRMI’s Patron Fare Display has three rows of eight pixels, 32 pixels wide. At the maximum character size of seven LEDs (or pixels) tall and five wide, the PFD can display five, four in tall characters on each of the three lines. When a smaller, six pixel tall by four pixel wide font is used, six characters fit on a single line. These characters are 3.75 inches tall.
Through the use of a translucent diffuser, LEDs have a wide 90° view angle allowing patrons to read the sign from almost any position in the toll lane. Each LED has 1000 millicandela output intensity for bright daylight conditions. Each pixel has a 0.2 inch diameter.
The PFD is mounted in an all-weather enclosure painted black with high-strength textured powder-coat paint. The chassis is extruded aluminum channel connected with custom molded round corners. The dimensions are 17.25”H x 21.6”W x 5.125”D (not including the air vents on the rear). The front lens is a high-impact resistant Plexiglas cover with an enhanced contrast design. The PFD is mounted using four rear accessible bolt holes.
Maximum power dissipation with all LEDs illuminated is 61 watts, and normal operational power usage is typically less than 0.2 watts. The display unit is rated to operate in 0 to 95% humidity, non-condensing, at an operating temperature between –30°F and 130°F.
